Planning the trip from Visakhapatnam
Hyderabad is about 620 km away — an hour by air or an overnight train. F-1 students should aim for interview dates comfortably before their programme start date.
- 1. DS-160 submitted and MRV fee paid (receipt valid 365 days).
- 2. OFC biometrics in a consulate city — passport, confirmation and DS-160 page.
- 3. Consular interview, often days or weeks later, possibly in another city.
- 4. One free reschedule only — so book dates you can actually travel for.
Dropbox (interview waiver) from Visakhapatnam
There is no drop-off point in Visakhapatnam. If the portal says you qualify for an interview waiver, the documents go to a Visa Application Centre in one of the five consulate cities. Since 2025 this mostly applies to same-category renewals of a visa that expired within the last 12 months; officers can still ask for an interview.
